Earth Day is an important day in spring that many people might overlook. It is a time when society can take a step back and examine how their living affects the earth and its resources. It's a day that opens many people's minds to learning greener living options. Our earth is too precious to throw away. Going green will help save the earth so we can keep celebrating Earth Day every year! Learning about the environment is exactly what every family needs. Here are some great events happening in the Twin Cities area that are fun, free, and family friendly.

Celebrate Earth Day!

Saturday April 17, 2010

Midtown Global Market

Free

The Midtown Global Market will celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 17th. Visitors can learn about greener ways of living and meet local farmers. There will also be a Recycled Art Fair that will display works that are made from at least 75% recycled materials. Chefs will be demonstrating ways of sustainable cooking for healthy living. Live music entertainment and activities for children will be available as well. The first 100 visitors will receive a free re-usable canvas bag!

Earth Day Celebration

Harriet Alexander Nature Center

Free

The Harriet Alexander Nature Center will be hosting a great family event celebrating Earth Day and the center's 20th anniversary. To start off the day, a delicious pancake breakfast fundraiser will occur. There will be exhibits on earth-friendly living, a walking parade, crafts, games, and tree planting. At the end of the day, birthday cake will be cut and served. This is a wonderful event for families with young children to attend.

Minnesota State Fair, Grand Stand

Free

This is a great family-friendly event. With more that exhibits, seminars, and activities, the whole family can learn and have fun. Topics at the expo include, green transportation, sustainable cooking, earth education and outdoor living. A go greener pass is available to ride the light rail free for guests. The first 200 people to arrive will receive a coupon book for healthy living.
