Earth Day Poem: Ode to the Earth from a Little Green Martian

Ira Mency
Little speck in the sky,

I look at you and wonder why,

Your inhabitants have ruined you so.

Clouds of acid rain and dirty snow.

I used to see you crystal clear,

Now you're barely visible here.

Ice caps melting, poor polar bears,

Dying , swimming, trying to find chairs.

Heat is rising oh so hot,

Wildfires destroying every spot.

Strange viral illness spreading fast,

New antibiotics just won't last.

Talks of war and smell of fear,

Earthlings' priorities are not quite clear.

You must nurse your planet back to heath!

Instead your focus is your wealth.

There is no money that can buy,

A new planet to inhabit in the sky.

Your grandchildren will not have a place,

On Earth, but possibly here in Space.

We Martian folks will make sure,

They don't come knocking at our door.

We don't want you to ruin our planet too,

We're in shock and awe because of you.

Humans ignore their planet is dying,

Reuse, recycle, don't stop trying!

There are but a chosen few

Who know exactly what to do!

Going green is the very best,

Do the math and take the test.

Make the changes, make them now!

Before the oceans show you how--

Easy it is for their waves to wipe you out

Why shouldn't they? There is no doubt--

What greater power hath created,

You,

Humans,

have successfully

annihilated.
