Earth- What's Not to Love About It?

Earth Day Poem

J L Carey Jr
Tell me...
When I wake up on the goose down,
That there are no more blood shots,
For the mercury pools and reflects
The nightmares of a new holocaust.

Good friends...
Is there no word of Khayam's Rubaiyat,
Of that old Fabian ideal?
Shall we not scuttle it and fashion it -
Closer to our hearts desire?

Tell me...
Why the horizon is filled with nooses?
I stand at the second pillar scored
By rusty razorblade tongues,
Staring at the coiling knots.

Good friends...
There are approximately 325,000 pair of
Canadian geese, Branta Canadensis Maxima,
In the Atlantic Flyway.
They mate for life.

Tell me...
How they powered a jet yesterday
With goat piss and applesauce.
And to think - I didn't believe Dan McLean when he said:
The Earth is the best the Universe has to offer.

Wonderful writing! The imagery and word choice is fantastic. Your message in this one needs to be heard and shared.

Point well taken. The truth is: planet earth is the only physical home that we have right now. We neglect it at our own peril.

An amazing piece. Dark and sublime. Now I have to go read Khayam's Rubaiyat. It's hard to believe there are so few geese left. Will the seasons turn without them?

this was brilliant, you are so talented, quote from Khayam too, makes it just perfect :)

Your imagery is always brilliant, and no exception here. I've seen many people leave this planet at my hands. It's always sad.

Ghoat piss & applesauce to be on the horizon! Great piece!

But does it have to be goat piss? Awfully hard to come by. Suitably mysterious . . .

    So very deep
