Earthquake in Chile Kicks Off Search Effort to Find Americans Stranded in Devastated Country (Video)

The 8.8-Magnitude Quake May Have Altered Earth's Axis, Scientists Say

The devastating 8.8-magnitude earthquake in Chile that struck over the weekend may have altered the Earth's axis and shortened the length of the day. It has also, according the latest video from the Associated Press, kicked off a search effort by American officials to track down the 700 to 1,200 U.S. citizens that were in Chile at the time of the earthquake.

The earthquake in Chile prompted a swift response from President Barack Obama, as shown in the video from the White House. Obama said the United States stands by ready to assist Chile in the aftermath of the earthquake.
