8.9 Quake in Japan the Biggest to Ever Hit Sending Powerful Waves as Far as the US

Japan was hit with the seventh worst earthquake in history and the worst to hit Japan leading to a tsunami that could affect the west coast of the US. The first wave of the tsunami has hit the first Hawaiian Island. No reports from Hawaii on damages or injuries yet.

In Japan Fox News is reporting that two to three hundred people are already reported dead with the death toll expected to rise. This is a devastating disaster. The earthquake was an 8.9 magnitude, is sending waves as high as six feet into Hawaii, and is expected to hit the US about 10:30 AM.

According to reports from San Diego California news, the Tsunami is expected to send two to three foot waves into California.

Meanwhile in Japan there are a number of fires and a nuclear power plant they cannot cool down may cause major problems. According to Fox News, people are being warned to evacuate if they live near the nuclear power plants. There is no word yet how bad the situation will become.

Oregon, Washington State and Alaska are also in the path of this major Tsunami. Only time will tell how each of these areas will be affected.

There is widespread destruction in Japan and many people have lost their lives. The earthquake happened six miles beneath the sea floor in Japan just 230 miles northeast of Tokyo. According to Fox News boats, homes, vehicles have been washed away because of this massive earthquake.

In Oregon, people are evacuating low-lying areas to get to safety before they are affected by the waves. Anyone who is in the path of this tsunami should move to higher ground as quickly as possible.

Kauai Hawaii was the first to be hit by the Tsunami and it will continue into the west coast of the US. There have been reports of a ferry carrying one hundred people that are unaccounted for as well as a train with an undisclosed number of people.
