My sister's son was given Colase (stool softener) and had become dependent of it. He is 7 and still having the same problem.I didn't want that to happen to my son. I didn't like the thought of having my child relying on medicine for who knows how long.I was determined to get him off of the Lactulose.
I looked everywhere to get some explanation to why my baby wasn't having normal bowel movements. Finally my dad told me that too much iron could cause constipation.I had been giving my son cereal in his bottle to help fill him up. I looked at the Gerber Rice cereal box I had been using and noticed they had VitaBlocks, which is added for nutritional value. Most formulas provide adequate nutrition so there is no need to over do it.
Well I started searching the markets to find an alternative to his Gerber rice cereal. Finally I had found Earth's Best rice cereal. I had to give it a try.
If you compare Gerber single grain rice cereal to Earth's Best whole grain rice cereal you will notice that the Gerber cereal has a high percentage of daily intake of the vitamins that are needed. As I mentioned before your baby's formula has all of the nutrition your baby needs. Gerber could actually do more harm to your baby than good, like it did my son.
I started giving him the Earth's Best cereal and he did really well. I started cutting back on his Lactulose and finally one day didn't give it to him. I was pleasantly surprised when he passed a bowel movement without the medicine. There was no looking back. I continued to use Earth's Best rice cereal and he had no problems with bowel movements. I no longer needed the Lactulose! We were medicine free at last. I don't recommend taking your baby off of medicine without talking to your doctor first. I just want to tell my story and hopefully help some parents out.
Earth's Best not only helped my baby with his BMs but it's an organic product too. It's only a slight bit more that Gerber but it's worth it. There's no added salt or sugar and it only has five ingredients:
Organic Brown Rice, Organic Rice Bran Extract, Tocopherols (Vitamin E), alpha-Amylase (Enzyme), Electrolytic Iron.
In the end Earth's Best whole grain rice cereal is the best way to go. It's not only organic but it really is better for your baby too.
5 out of 5 stars.
