Easiest Ever Oreo Ice Cream Cake

Ice cream cakes are always a perennial hit among children, especially during the hot months. Ice cream is good by itself, but when it comes in a cake form, it is utterly irresistible. Ice cream cakes can carry a high price tag in stores, but you can make your own easily with some inexpensive ingredients that are easily found in the grocery store.

Here's a simple recipe for a tasty, cool treat. This one's a chocolately cake, made with Oreos and hot fudge, but you can alter the recipe to whatever flavor you desire. It's hard to go really wrong with an ice cream cake. Just think about what sweet things you like together, and then combine them with ice cream. Anyhow, here's the recipe.

Chocolatey Ice Cream Cake

Ingredients:

Large pan

Ice cream (your flavor of choice)

One package of Oreos

Hot fudge

Caramel

Whipped topping (Cool whip or whipped cream)

Sprinkles

Instructions:

Place the ice cream at room temperature to let it thaw slightly. If the ice cream is soft, it is much easier to spread into a layer in the cake.

Take about a dozen Oreos and break them into pieces. These pieces will be used for the crust. If you want a smoother crust, crush the Oreos into finer pieces. Place the Oreo bits in a layer at the bottom of the pan. If you are using a large pan, you may need to crush more Oreos to completely cover the bottom.

Once the ice cream is soft enough to spread easily (without being completely liquid), scoop it into a layer on top of the Oreos. Top with a thin layer of hot fudge and caramel squiggles and more crushed Oreos.

You can alternate layers of ice cream, fudge, and Oreos until you build up the cake to be as high as you want. Some other ingredients you can consider adding are shaved nuts, candy bits, and dried or frozen fruit. Frozen berries are an especially good choice for a gourmet flair for cheap. In comparison to fresh berries, which carry a premium price because they are so hard to keep, frozen berries give you the bang for your buck.

To finish top it all off with a generous layer of the whipped topping. Then decorate it with sprinkles and Oreo bits. It this is a birthday cake, you may want to leave off the sprinkles and instead write some merry messages on top with icing.

Put the cake back in the freezer for a couple hours to set.

Enjoy!
