One pretty flower you may not know that can thrive in the Texas heat is the Lavender flower. It is best to plant in a raised bed or mound. It does well in full sun. One thing about Lavender is that you need to avoid overwatering it. It may seem they need watering but too much water will hurt the plants.
The zinnia plant is another good choice to stand the Texas heat. It is a warm climate plant. Here in Texas the zinnias are pretty popular. They need full sun and they also need to be planted in well drained soil.
The lantana plant is a perennial flowering plant. Lantana's are usually very bright in color. Very pretty! They also tend to change colors as they grow. The lantana's are usually stubborn little boogers and will grow when nothing else will. No green thumb necessary!
The bluebonnet, which is the State flower, is another great flower to withstand the Texas heat. They are truly beautiful! They only thing about the bluebonnet is that they only bloom March to May.
The Larkspur is a beautiful purple plant that takes full sun. They bloom in the spring. One great thing about the larkspur is that they will come back each year on their own.
Sunflowers are another great choice. They are beautiful and are very easy to grow. They also take full sun and need to be planted in well drained soil. Sunflowers can grow to as much as 9 feet!
The Texas Lilac is considered a large shrub or looks like a small tree. A great thing about the Texas Lilac is it's tolerance to pest, drought and heat! Can't beat that! The Texas Lilac can thrive in the full sun or even partial sun. It has the potential to grow as big as 10 to 15 feet tall. It also has beautiful purple flowers.
The Firebush plant is a green plant with red flowers. It needs full sun. the Firebush is a great plant if you want to attract hummingbirds. This plant usually grows to be around 3 feet tall.
The last plant we will look at is the Flare Hibiscus. It is a beautiful plant with hot pink or maroon flowers. Very pretty! This plant is very low maintenance and thrives in full sun. It usually blooms all summer until the first frost.
