Smoking is an addiction which does considerable damage to our health resulting in an increased incidence of lung and throat cancer, heart disease and breathing problems; not to mention the bad breath and staining of teeth and fingers. Combine this with the cost of cigarettes, and the extra amount of money you need to spend on getting your teeth whitened and on mints and you have many good reasons to quit smoking cigarettes. If you have tried to stop before and have not succeeded here are some more ways to help you quit smoking cigarette for good.

The first thing you have to do is set a date to quit smoking cigarette completely and stick to it. Before you get to the date do a major clear out of you house and remove all your cigarette gear including lighters, ashtrays, matches, holders, and the actual cigarettes. You may find this difficult but it is the best way to stop smoking. If you leave something lying around then it may make you want to light up again.

Secondly make a list why you want to stop, include reasons such as your health, the cost, bad breath, smelly house and so on. Keep this list handy at all times so the next time you feel a craving coming on read the list, and tell yourself you never want to smoke again.

Find a friend to give up too. Sometimes when you have company and you know someone else is experiencing the same withdrawal symptoms as you it makes it easier. You can help encourage and motivate each other in times of craving. However this can have a negative effect too, if your friend starts smoking again it may set you back on your tracks. Joining a local quit smoking cigarette group can be very effective too and you can discuss ways of beating those daily cravings.

Try nicotine replacement therapy in the form of the gum, patches, tablets, inhaler or a nasal spray. These have helped many thousands of people quit smoking cigarette over the years and are more effective than going cold turkey as they release nicotine into the bloodstream. However they still have a few side effects such as skin irritation from the patches, upset sleep patterns, nausea and light headedness.
