Easily Help Donate Needed Food!

C. Penlington
Everywhere around us, increasing numbers of people are losing their jobs and/or homes, and are experiencing difficulty affording items that may or may not have been given a second thought prior to this recession. It has even been hinted that we could find ourselves in a depression.

The results of this recession equal lines at local foodbanks growing, and at the same time, supplies/funding for those foodbanks are dwindling. This has sprouted 'outside the box' thinking by companies like 'Kraft'. They wanted to reach out to the community and help those in need, by donating boxes and boxes and boxes (at least one million) of macaroni & cheese (a wonderfully familiar comfort food) as their way of 'giving back', and also, setting a very impressive example for other companies to follow.

To get involved in helping Kraft donate even more boxes of macaroni and cheese, simply visit this link to get started: www.gather.com/viewArticle.action

Another way you can donate food (at no cost to you other than a little time playing a fun game), is by visiting this website set up by the 'UN world food program' :
www.freerice.com
Their goal is to provide free education, and free food. You will be given definitions of words, and then asked to select the correct answer. For each correct answer, ten grains of rice will be donated in areas where it is needed. This also sets an impressive example for other organizations/companies to follow.

Even though many companies and organizations have been feeling the pinch of the recession also, there have been several companies that have recently offered freebies, including 'Schwans', 'Jack in the box', 'Arbys', 'Starbucks', 'Ikea', 'General Mills', among others.

Hopefully more companies will be able to find ways to offer freebies to their communities, and the general public can help make this a reality by sharing ideas with the establishments they frequent, as to what may work in terms of increasing said establishments business, and at the same time providing them with necessary resources to reach out to the needy with donations.

There is a very promising habit popping up here and there around the country in a few business', and it's called 'paying it forward'. "Paying it forward' is a trend that is allowing those that have the extra funds, to help out either the next person in line, or to help a future/potential future customer pay their bill, by paying either double their own bill, or by paying their own bill and the bill of the next person in line at that business.

These offers of help are very encouraging, and the effects of even one person's generosity/thoughtfulness can be surprizing, and can spur on others. We can all create domino effects of giving with just a little effort, and work towards turning this recession around step by step!

It is heartening to see people generously reach out to others.
