Easily Lift Your Mood

Robin Skeen
Sometimes when you feel a bit down, it's hard to see how to get yourself out of the hole. You are probably aware that when you feel an emotion, other similar emotions tend to feed off of that and your emotional state magnifies. Well, this works for positive and negative emotions. You can get up in the morning a little grumpy and things just go downhill from there if you do nothing. You will spend the entire day looking for every negative thing you can find while your misery permeates the atmosphere at home or work. How much fun are you to be around do you suppose?

Here are three ways to easily lift your mood and avoid the slippery slide into negative emotions.

1) Decide on your attitude for the day. Remind yourself first thing in the morning that how the day goes is completely your choice. Make a small list and put it on your mirror so you see it every day. List all the descriptive terms you can think of for being positive and feeling peaceful. Try words like self-confident, calm, patient and other terms along the same theme. Read that list every morning and choose the word that will describe your actions and mood for the day. Things may happen that are unplanned, but even then you can choose how you react. Do not give your power to small things and let it ruin your entire day. Keep reminding yourself of the choice you made that morning whenever you slip into negativity.

2) What you put into your mind is what comes back, so choose to start the day with positive input. Just as you can choose your mood for the day, you can choose positive materials that will give you a lift the first thing every morning. Stack your bedside table with inspiring books and every morning read a random page from the collection. Like throwing a dart, let your eyes stick to a passage and read what first catches your attention. Reflect on what you read for a moment and what it may mean to your life. You can make this even more fun by writing down your impressions about what you read and its possible influence on how you live.

3) Learn to be more logical rather than emotional. Staying in a positive mood is a lot easier when you remain calm and cool. If you find yourself in an emotional situation, try to take yourself out of the way for a few moments to get a handle on your emotions a bit. Use a little deep breathing and a small pep talk. Tell yourself that you will remain calm. If you can stay somewhat detached, it may be easier to see that particular situation more clearly.

If you will use these suggestions, it will help you have an easier time lifting your mood on those days when you really need it.
