The first step in keeping your rates low is to always pay on time. If you happen to miss a payment you will probably get a higher interest rate on your credit card. If this happens you should immediately pay your bill and contact the credit card issuer. Assure them you had every intention to pay on time and you have payment on the way. Give them your excuse and they may waive the higher interest rate and other penalties they may charge.
If after you have contacted the card issuer and they still give you a higher rate. Call your credit card issuer again and simply ask for a lower rate. If the first person you talk to does not give you a lower rate then ask to talk to a supervisor. Supervisors almost always give you a lower rate. If you are still unable to convince them hang up and call again. Keep calling until you find someone who will give you a lower rate. You can do this with your existing credit cards to get lower rates as well. I usually call every few month's or so and ask for a lower rate. Usually I get some kind of lower rate. It may be only a few discount points but that may be a huge amount of money saved. Sometimes they have special promotional deals going on. These special promotional deals usually last about six month's but you may get a super low rate. I have received rates as low as 1.99%. This really does work! I have done it many times.
Tip: Avoid missing payments by gettting a bank account that allows you to set up automatic payment plans.
