When you separate an egg yolk from an egg white you can use a funnel to make the job easier. Take the funnel and get it situated so that it stays upright all by itself because you are going to need both of your hands to crack the egg properly and get the egg white separated from the egg yolk. You can ask someone to hold the funnel steady for you.
Gently crack the egg and slip the egg shell in half as best you can. Then open the split egg and let the egg fall into the funnel. The funnel should let the egg white slide though to a waiting container that is under the funnel spout. The egg yolk should stay in the funnel where you can gently take the funnel and dump the egg yolk into another container.
You need to be very careful that you do not break the egg yolk or the egg yolk will slide through the funnel spout and you will end up with a cracked egg that is not separated.
It is best to crack one egg at the time and let the white flow through the funnel spout. Then dump the yolk into another container before you crack another egg. That way you can only make a mistake of getting some egg yolk into one egg white.
Once all of your eggs that are called for in the recipe you are making are separated into whites and yolks you are ready to start making your recipe.
Using a funnel to separate you egg whites from your egg yolks is easy and it can be fun to do. When you separate your eggs try to keep all of the egg yolk out of the egg whites since just a little egg yolk can ruin the egg whites especially if you are going to whip the egg white.
