East Coast Earthquake

AnnaB

FIRST PERSON | Today's East Coast earthquake was felt by many of my neighbors. As a trembling similar to when a washing machine is off balance. Several of my friends who live nearer to town or in town (Shelby, NC) felt this earthquake as shelves shook, and some dishes fell over in at least one of my friends kitchen cabinets. For me however it was more of an eerie feeling.

What was different for me, was not the ground trembling, that is normally associated with earthquakes. Instead, for several hours prior, I was feeling extremely fatigued and like a weight was pressing on me. Whether or not this was directly related to the earthquake, I am not absolutely positive. However, after the earthquake, I've felt a little less fatigued, plus the feeling I had seems to have left. Perhaps a coincidence or perhaps, I'm sensitive to the elements of nature?

I've never really experienced an earthquake up close and personal such as passed through this area today. So it is likely I've assumed the feelings I've had today immediately prior to this particular earthquake have absolutely nothing to do with the earthquake whatsoever.

I first learned of this earthquake was from a friend on Facebook. I have a friend on Facebook who seems to report the weather or any events faster than our local paper. He lives only a few miles down the road. His post was "Did anyone feel the earthquake just now?"

Shortly, after his report several more local Facebook friends began posting about the earthquake. Shortly thereafter the local online news papers began reporting about the earthquake.

I've learned in recent months, new travels fastest through my friends on Facebook, than local media... Because most of the time someone will have posted about whatever it is I'm wondering about sooner than any other news source I happen to turn to. I think this may be because those on Facebook do not have to run their reports by editors or check their facts before posting.

The first thing I did after learning of the earthquake was to contact my daughter who happened to be out with a friend. I was concerned about aftershocks, and such as that.

My daughter was not able to reply as soon as I felt like she should; however, she did have a good reason. The reason was her friends calling to tell her about the earthquake.
