Easter Activities for Kids to Make Your 2009 Easter Memorable

4 Activities that Will Keep Your Kids Busy and Smiling on Easter

Robert Getz
We all remember hunting for eggs on Easter; in fact as parents many of us still take our kids to those same Easter egg hunts. Searching for those elusive eggs, the triumph of finding them, and the mystery of what was inside of them was somehow far more exciting than the actual prize. There are many activities for Easter aside from the famous Easter egg hunts that you can share with your family, church, school or other organization.

One thing that is fun to do either as a surprise or to get your child to help you put together is an Easter Piñata. By far the easiest Piñata to make is the Easter egg, this is a great activity to get your little one involved in, just be sure to have a place to work and play clothes because this activity is messy!

Paper mache starts with newspaper strips and paste, so tear your newspaper into strips about 1 inch wide, you can find a paste recipe here . Blow up a large balloon and tie it off. Now cover your balloon with your paper mache, let dry and cover it once more. You need to leave a small opening somewhere on the top to pop your balloon and to be able to fill your piñata.

Decorate your piñata then use a piece of heavy twine to hang it with. Fill your piñata with candy, pencils, stickers, money and what every else you can find at your local dollar store. You will need something to hit it with such as a baseball bat, or the handle of an old garden tool, be sure to have everyone stand back as kids can get pretty into this game!!

How about a game of Easter Bingo? This is especially great for big groups such as preschools, or grade schools, and it would not be too hard to adapt this game to be a great church activity. The printables for this can be found at blackdog4kids , in addition to the printables you will need something mark the squares with; this can be mini rubber stamps, jelly beans, or stickers. You will also want to have something for a prize for the winners, since you will likely be doing multiple games it should be something small like stuffed animals, a small Easter basket, or a chocolate bunny.

Pin the Egg in the Basket is a twist on an old favorite. Print, make or color an Easter basket and eggs, these materials can be found all around the internet at places such as Family Crafts . Put your Easter basket on the wall, then blindfold each child, and have them try to pin the egg in the basket. The child that gets the closest wins the prize!

And last but certainly not least our favorite Easter activity is to make Easter cookies. For this activity will you will need a good sugar cook recipe, some Easter cookie cutters, frosting, and candy and sprinkles to decorate with. We bake the cookies one day, cutting out a variety of shapes, while we cut we tell stories about what one shape or another might be named or what their personal story is. This is a great opportunity for small children to use their imagination. The next day we decorate our larger than life characters as we envisioned them using frosting and whatever sprinkles and candies we might have.

Spring is a great time to get outside, enjoy the pretty spring colors, and Easter is a time for fun. Don't be afraid to use your creativity and take the time to enjoy Easter with your little ones.
