For this project, you will need:
- Light colored polymer clay (the amount depends on how many eggs you are making)
- Rolling pin or craft roller
- Baking sheet
- Wire cooling rack
- Egg shaped cookie cutter (found at craft stores and cooking stores)
- Craft knife
- Sponge brush
- Artist's paintbrush
- Delta Ceram Coat Paint in Bubblegum Opaque
- Delta Ceram Coat Paint in Lilac Opaque
- Delta Ceram Coat Paint in Wedgewood Blue Opaque
- Delta Ceram Coat Paint in Lime Sorbet Opaque
- Delta Ceram Coat Paint in Hope Semi-Opaque
- Acrylic finishing spray
- Scissors
- Adhesive backed magnetic strip
- Newspaper
With the use of paints and clays, it is always important to cover your work area with newspaper prior to beginning.
Work the polymer clay with your fingers until it is completely softened. Roll the clay out with a rolling pin or craft roller until it is 3/4 inch thick. Use the egg shaped cookie cutter to cut out several different egg shapes. (If you need to flatten and re-roll out the clay, that is perfectly okay).
Roll out the clay back to a 3/4 inch thick sheet. With the craft knife cut out details for the egg shapes from the clay. This can be striped, zig-zags, hearts, diamonds, stars, letters... whatever! Be creative.
Lay the egg shapes onto the baking sheet. Lay the additional details onto the egg shapes, as desired. Bake the clay according to manufacturer directions. Cool the clay eggs on a wire rack completely.
Place the eggs gently onto your workspace. Use the sponge brush to paint the eggs one solid color. (Consider doing a base of one egg for each of the colors listed above.) Use the artist's paintbrush to add details to the egg decorating. Let the paint dry completely.
Spray each egg with acrylic finishing spray. Dry overnight. Cut a small piece of adhesive backed magnetic strip and attach it to each egg. Enjoy your new creation on a refrigerator or other magnetic surface!
TIP: To add extra patterned appeal to your eggs, consider stamping them with an un-inked rubber stamp prior to baking them.
