Easter Crafts for Children

A. Ormont
Spring is around the corner and Easter is too. There are many fun crafts that revolve around eggs, bunnies, and even baby chicks at this time of the year. I will outline a few fun ones here! Most of these are crafts that children can do by themselves or with minimal help. The last one is mostly for a grown up to do and a child to enjoy wearing!!

Chicks

Cut a section of an empty egg carton. However many sections you have is how many chicks you will make. Three in a row looks pretty cute! Put some glue in the bottom of each egg carton section and then put a large, spring-colored pompom on the glue in the egg carton. Next, using googly eyes and craft foam, add eyes and a beak to the chicks. Turns out very cute!

Keepsake eggs

Use a pin to poke a hole in both ends of an egg. Blow the insides out and discard. Rinse egg as well as you can. Next, use tissue paper squares in spring colors and glue them onto the egg shell. Use extra glue on top of the tissue paper so that it sticks and hardens. These turn out beautifully and will last a long time!

Easter Egg Suncatchers

Give each child a piece of clear contact paper and tissue paper squares. With the sticky side up, the children can now place their tissue paper squares all over the contact paper. When the child is finished, place a second piece of clear contact paper on top of the tissue paper so none will come loose and then trim the work into the shape of an egg. Use a hole puncher to punch a hole in the top of the egg and put some string through it to hang it. Hang these in the windows for a colorful decoration.

Paper Plate Easter Bonnet

Use a plain paper plate. Turn it upside down and decorate it using dried or plastic flowers, ribbons, paint, glitter, or anything else you can find. Once everything on it has dried, use a hole puncher to punch one hole in each side of the plate and insert a ribbon on each side. Put the plate on child's head and use the ribbon to tie it under the child's chin. This is beautiful and can be mostly all done by the child (except for the ribbon).

Bunny Ears

Using a plastic headband (you can usually purchase these at the dollar store and often you can get a pack of 5 for $1) you can make bunny ears for your child to wear. You will also need craft foam and pipe cleaners. Cut 4 bunny ears out of craft foam. You can use any color. Take one bunny ear and smear with glue. Put a pipe cleaner on top of the glue going from the top of the ear and sticking out the bottom. Add more glue on top of the pipe cleaner and put a second bunny ear on top. You may wish to let this dry under a heavy book or you can clamp it together using binder clips. Make the second ear in the same way. Once the ears are COMPLETELY dry, wrap the part of the pipe cleaner that is sticking out around the headband and you have bunny ears to wear!

Have fun and enjoy!
