Easter Crafts: How to Make a Textured Easter Egg

BS
Easter is coming very quickly which means decorations, church, family, food, candy, Easter eggs, along with many other traditions. Easter is a great holiday and a favorite for a lot of people. Preparations for Easter can be stressful, but they can also be a lot of fun. Decorating Easter eggs is one of the best parts of preparing for Easter. This is a fun craft for kids of all ages, and adults, and not only are they fun to make, but they can later be used as decorations or for other Easter activities. Decorating Easter eggs is a great way to spend some family time together having fun, and also gives kids a chance to display their crafts later. A common way to decorate your Easter eggs is using dye or paint. This leaves the egg smooth, but still beautiful. This year, if you want to try something new, try a textured Easter egg.

Materials
-hallow or plastic eggs
-masking tape
-acrylic paint
-paintbrush

Instructions
1. This is actually one of the cleanest ways to decorate Easter eggs, but you might still want to lay down some newspaper over your working area, just in case. You most likely won't need an apron, but you can wear one if it makes you feel more comfortable.

2. The first thing to do is to cover your Easter egg in masking tape. This is what is going to give your Easter egg texture. For the best results, you should cut the masking tape in small pieces.

3. After you have cut small pieces of tape off, start putting them on your egg. You will probably have to do more than one layer of tape to give your Easter egg texture. Put the tape on the egg, and if it looks smooth and even, don't worry about it yet.

4. When the first tape layer is done, cut out some more small pieces of masking tape.

5. Here is where the Easter egg gets textured. Start putting the second layer of masking tape on the egg. Only put these pieces over some of the egg. You can also fold these pieces to make them thicker. Keep doing this until you get the texture you want.

6. Once your tape is on your Easter eggs, it's time to paint. Choose a color, or a few colors and start painting. It is important to use acrylic paint, food dye or watercolor paint won't stick to the tape. You may even have to do two layers to get the effect you want. Let your textured Easter egg dry and use it however you want.

Cool idea! Since all our eggs get hidden and found many times, I think these eggs will stand up to all the abuse better than the rest.
