Macy's spring dress collection for women always has a wide variety of classic styles to choose from, and the line for spring 2010 is simply spectacular. Elegant sheath dresses by designers such as Calvin Klein are very popular this year, and come in a variety of spring colors like coral, blue, yellow, green, and white. Dresses with a fitted bodice and full skirt are also a hot item for spring this year, and Macy's carries a nice selection of dresses in this style as well. The thing I like most about Macy's dresses is that the tops are cut in more conservative styles like boat neck, and while I have nothing against low-cut dresses, for church on Easter Sunday, it's usually a good idea not to show cleavage. Macy's dresses range in price from about $50.00 to $200.00, but be sure to check your newspaper for flyers or Macy's website as they are always running sales on a weekly basis.
Talbot's
I absolutely love Talbot's line of spring dresses! Since I am a sucker for the early 1960s look, I am in danger of going broke because all of Talbot's dresses are inspired by this era. This is where I purchased my dress for Easter 2010, and while the prices at Talbots are a little steep ($130.00+) these sort of dresses are a fashion investment. The colors are simply beautiful, and come in palettes of pinks, yellows, blues, and floral prints. All the dresses in Talbot's line come to the top of the knee or just a little below, and the bodices are cut modestly. I highly recommend Talbot's if you want a very classic and elegant looking dress to wear on Easter Sunday.
Ann Taylor Loft
A store that targets the working professional woman, Ann Taylor Loft carries a line of 'business casual' dresses that would double perfectly as Easter dresses. Although the color choices in their selection are very minimal, most of Ann Taylor's line is modest and classic looking. The dresses here run a little shorter, but not indecently so. Prices at Ann Taylor range from $50.00 to $80.00.
Coldwater Creek
If you want to invest in a beautiful sheath dress but are on a budget, then Coldwater Creek is the place to go. Coldwater Creek carries many of the same classic styles that Talbot's does, only priced a little lower. Their spring collection is very beautiful, and always be sure to check out the dresses on their website, as many of them go on sale frequently. I personally love the cut of their dresses, as they are made with heavy duty fabrics, and do not feel 'flimsy' when worn.
White House Black Market
If you are looking for an Easter dress in the most basic fashion colors (black and white), then White House Black Market is the place for you. Known for their elegant, yet edgy style, this is great place to go if you want a dress that is classic and trendy at the same time. Prices at White House Black Market run a little high ($128.00+), but always check the clearance rack for white dresses from their winter line. Since white is both a spring and winter color, you can easily find an out of season dress at a fraction of the cost. Also, it should be noted that a few colors have snuck into their spring 2010 dress line, as evidenced on their site!
Accessorizing Your Dress
Last but not least, you will most certainly want to finish off your look with accessories to enhance your beautiful new dress. For jewelry, I would go with classic pearl earrings and necklaces. Since your dress is more than likely to be a beautiful spring color, you want to keep your jewelry simple and classic. When picking out a pair of shoes to go with your dress, instead of white, choose nude or 'flesh colored' high heels instead. These provide a nice alternative from the matronly white, and will go with just about any color in the rainbow. A simple clutch style purse or handbag will finish off your look. Since Easter Sunday can sometimes be very chilly, it would be wise to invest in a coat. Trench coats are the hottest look for the cool spring weather this year, and can be found at any of the above mentioned stores for reasonable prices. One last bit of advice, unless you are wearing sandals, wear stockings or pantyhose with your dress. This is not only wise for cool spring weather, but it also adds a very discreet ladylike touch to your look and will truly make you feel like you are all dressed up for Easter!
