Easter Egg Collage Box Craft Project

Fun Craft for Kids

Ann Siper
This is a fun craft project kids can for Easter. It is the perfect place to hold their Sunday school jewelry or even anything special the Easter bunny may leave them.

While the Easter Eggs in this craft project are made of tissue paper, cartoon book or cookie cutter Easter Eggs provide the perfect shape to trace to get realistic egg shapes. Have the kids collect a variety of egg patterns in different shapes, sizes, and colors. Any kind of egg size will work. .

This craft project is simply and should cost you $20 or less per child. The most expensive part is the wooden box. You can buy pre made wooden boxes at any arts and craft store, like Michaels. You cannot use a shoebox for this project. As the decoupage medium dries it will shrink and wrap the shoebox.

For this Easter egg Craft Project You Will Need:

Tissue Paper (Pastel colors are best)

Decoupage Medium

Wooden Box

2" Paint Brush

Scissors

Pencil

Felt

Glue

Cartoon ages with Easter eggs in them or egg shaped cookie cutters.

The first step is to collect some Easter Eggs from you coloring books, old Easter cards, or even from cookie cutters the kids ca trace.. Make sure the kids find at least five different shapes and sizes.

Trace the Easter Eggs onto some poster board or cardboard. Cut them out with scissors.

Now, trace the Easter Egg patterns onto your colorful tissue paper. Cut the tissue paper Easter Eggs out. You will need a lot of these, maybe 20 or so for a small to medium sized box.

Now, use more colors for pastel tissue paper to cut out designs and more to embellish the Easter eggs with. You can use polka dots, strips, and even squiggles. Let the kids get creative here with their Easter Eggs.

Use one of those ready made wooden boxes you can buy at any craft store for the base of this project. You could prime or paint the box first if you would like. Just remember the color will show through the fall leaf tissue paper, so stick with lighter colors.

Start by laying a tissue paper Easter Egg on the wood box and using decoupage to attach it to the box. Dip your brush in the decoupage medium and then brush on the Easter Egg. You may want to paint on a layer of decoupage medium to the box and then lay the Easter Egg on. You can add more medium on top. Lay your cut out designs on the egg to decorate them just like a real Easter egg. Use more decoupage medium to hold this down if necessary.

Continue this process until you cover the entire wooden box. Your Easter Eggs should overlap, creating a layered look on the craft box. You can add as many layers of Easter Eggs as you would like. The decoupage glue medium will dry clear and hard. You children's artwork will be well protected for years to come.

To add a sparkle to your wooden Easter Eggs craft box you can rub a metallic paint onto the dried box. Wipe it off with a clean dry cloth. Allow this to dry for at lest an hour. For a shiny touch try mixing one part gold paint with two parts glaze. Brush this over the entire box. Wipe away any excess if necessary. Allow this to dry before you move on to the next step of this craft project.

To complete the Easter Egg craft box you need to line the inside of the box with pastel felt. Start by cutting a piece of fabric out to fit the bottom of the box. Glue it into place. Next, cut out pieces to line the inside of the inside of the box. Glue them into place as well.

The kids can use those craft paint pens or markers to write their name inside of the lid of the box.
