Easter Events and Celebrations in the Philadelphia Area

Patricia Sicilia
The delivery of colorful eggs and chocolate goodies isn't the only anticipated Easter event in and around Philadelphia. Easter activities including hayrides, ethnic and craft workshops, a Bunny Hop at the Zoo and an Easter buffet at Longwood Gardens offer food, entertainment and education in the weeks leading to Easter.

EASTER WORKSHOP AT THE AMERICAN SWEDISH HISTORICAL MUSEUM: South Philadelphia, March 28th, 2-4 pm. Evidently, witches don't just fly on Halloween in Sweden! The Swedish tradition of the "Easter Witch" is highlighted at this workshop, and visitors are encouraged dress as witches and participate in face painting, crafts, and an egg hunt. Visit the Museum's website here for more details. (History of the Easter Witch)

EASTER EGG WORKSHOP AT THE MUD SHACK: North Wales, Pa., Sunday, March 21, 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm. Professional potters teach the art of "slipping" and "scoring" Easter eggs, and a clay basket, as well! This Easter activity will provide you with a creation to hand down to the grandchildren. Call 215-393-8380 to sign up, or visit their Website.

BUNNY HOP AT THE PHILADELPHIA ZOO: Fairmount, March 27 and 28, 10 am to 4 pm. Hop, hop hop around to stations throughout the Zoo's blooming gardens to pick up some sweet treats provided by Just Born. Jump on down to Impala Lawn for Easter events including the annual egg hunt, springtime activities, games, storytelling, animal encounters and a meeting with the Easter Bunny. Visit the Zoo Website ticketing page here for online/print at home tickets.

EASTER BUFFET AT LONGWOOD GARDENS: Kennett Square, PA, April 4th, 10 am to 5 pm. A lavish Easter Buffet will be held in the Ballroom at Longwood Gardens. Buffet price includes admission to the internationally renowned showplace gardens. For tickets on-line, visit this site, call 610-388-5200 or pick them up at Longwood's Visitor Center.

SPIRIT OF PHILADELPHIA EASTER LUNCH AND DINNER CRUISES: Penn's Landing, April 4th, Lunch 12:30-3 pm, Dinner 5-8:30 pm. Celebrate Easter cruising on the Delaware River on the Spirit of Philadelphia. Both the Easter Bunny Lunch Cruise, with a special appearance by E. Bunny, and the Easter Dinner Cruise, provide a lavish buffet, dancing, DJ, and magnificent skyline views. Visit this site for reservations and menus.

LINVILLA ORCHARDS HAYRIDES TO BUNNYLAND: Media, PA, March 20, 21 and March 27 through April 3; 11 am- 4 pm. They found where the Easter Bunny lives! At Linvilla Orchards, Hayrides to Bunnyland take you right to his house, where the kids can not only meet the Easter Bunny and have their picture taken with him, but also participate Easter activities that include face-painting, storytelling and pony rides. Visit their website here for more details.
