Easter Musings

A Walk Through the Holiday with Mariah Moser

Easter was always a special time in my childhood. It's a time when family comes together. Good food is made, adults laugh and catch up, while children are off in their own little world of cakes candies and games. It always seemed like a perfect holiday in my family. when the troubles and struggles of everyday life kinda faded a little and you remembered how lucky you are, just by the bright faces of loved ones whom you get to see again.

Easter was the one day a year all the cousins would get together and old times would seem to just roll on. all the games we'd played for years are pulled out and dusted off. Familiar faces, sounds, smells and taste, nothing could ruin this day. My memories of Easter are commonly filled with bright colors, and homely scents. ham, salads, cakes, pies.... fruit galore, huge dishes piled high with yummy foods, and far far too much chocolate. Little plastic eggs driving out and energy and passion that explodes out in a pure energy and radiant joy.

It is one of the few widely known holidays where a family comes together and spends time outside. When your allowed to play with your food, be creative and make everything all the more colorful. When eggs are not only a food but a focus of fun and excitement. During the time of year when everything is fresh and new what is more perfect then an old fashioned Easter egg hunt?

In my opinion, nothing. Even in later years, when searching bushes and grass for colored eggs isn't quite as exciting, you take the hand of yet another generation and watch their faces lite up as they find that first egg. what else can happen then complete contentedness? have the heart of a child this Easter, take part in the festivities, let loose a little, enjoy the company of loved ones, and maybe even loosen your belt a little and dig in! whatever you choose to do, I hope you do it with a smile on your face and loved ones near by.
