Early on last Easter morn
I opened my front door,
Bent down to get my paper
Was shocked! That's for sure.
From underneath my bushes
He jumped out in front of me,
Don't know who was most scared
The bunny or ol' grannie.
We got our wits about us
My little brown bunny hopped off,
I came in and read my paper
Told my story, laughed so hard I coughed.
Before church the Easter Bunny came
And he hid the Easter eggs,
They looked so very pretty
I knew the kids would beg.
To gather up their baskets
And run right out the door,
Running, shouting, hunting
To see how many they could score.
Each child had a hidden basket
Among the flowers or under the tree,
As we came in the drive from church
What a lovely sight to see.
My lovely little brown bunny
Had curled up in a basket near,
Believe it or not, he'd fallen asleep
Oh, he was just so dear.
Of course the little ones were thrilled
And couldn't believe their eyes,
To see him sleeping in that basket
Was the best-ever Easter Surprise.
