Easter Poem Redemption

Sheri Fresonke Harper
I have two hands, both empty but lifted
I have two hearts, three, four, more I sift through
I have explained tears at other's losses
I have unexplained tears and the need to scream

just because there's right and wrong,
just because hunger goes unanswered
or answered too well for others health,
just because pain makes us human

as does the lily of love planted
for the departed and for those here and now,
as does the tickle of touch from loved ones
emotion is a birth of its own.

And so when you judge me on the scale
of public opinion, asking and telling and feeling,
do you see the hands, the heart, the questions
or do you deduce what you want to have real?

All too often people don't really see us as we really are, but what they think we are. Great poem.
