Easter Present Ideas for Your Pets

Lauren Romano
Since your pet is part of the family, it makes sense to give him an Easter gift just as you would for other family members. Although Easter incorporates a lot of chocolate and candy that isn't safe for pets, there are plenty of presents and goodies you can give them that are pet-friendly.

Easter Candy for Dogs

The adorable chick, carrot and bunny shaped dog treats are made from yogurt, chopped unsalted peanuts and peanut butter. If you're ordering this item for a friend's pet, attach a small tag that describes what ingredients are in the candy in case the dog has any specific health conditions you're not aware of. For your own pet, as with any new treats, give him only one treat to start off with to evaluate how he reacts to the new item since some dogs have sensitive stomachs.

Bunny Ears

The blue bunny ears are specified for a dog, but depending on the size of your cat, they may fit him too. They come with an adjustable strap so you can adjust it for a comfortable fit. Make sure not to leave your pet unattended while he's wearing the costume - should he get the ears off, you don't want him chewing it into small pieces and swallowing them.

Bunny Bucket

If you are purchasing a present for a friend's pet, consider putting together a bunny bucket. Buy treats your friend typically gives her pet and put them into the bucket or, if the type of treats don't matter, purchase Easter themed pet treats and put them inside. Attach a cute Easter tag addressed to the pet.

Stuffed Carrot Cat Toy

A refillable carrot shaped catnip toy that has a feather top is an option for any cat that loves to toss around toys throughout the day. After filling the toy, check that there's no way for the cat to get it out - if the cat ingests too much of the catnip it's possible that he could get sick and experience nausea and diarrhea.

Before giving any pet an Easter gift, even if it's specifically made for an animal, check it over for safety to ensure there are no loose pieces. Use hard tugs on the toys to test its durability and for any edibles, double-check the ingredients to avoid any that could make your pet sick.

Somehow, I think most dogs, given a choice, would not be interested in the bunny ears.
