On Easter Sunday,
I would wake to find a woven basket
filled with plastic grass
filled with jelly beans
and a large, hollow chocolate bunny.
I would wake to find a woven basket
filled with plastic grass
filled with jelly beans
and a large, hollow chocolate bunny.
After much candy had been eaten
and breakfast was finished,
we would dress in our Easter best.
Photographs were taken
at home and at church,
the family was all there,
from grandchildren to grandparents.
I can still hear the allelujahs
in the resurrection classic,
Christ The Lord Has Risen Today,
from my mother standing next to me.
The purple lilacs still bloom
in the backyard every Easter.
