Easter, a Time to Resurrect Tradition

True Hunt of Eggheads

Lori Lane
Easter, a time of the resurrection of Jesus. Easter, memories of sifting through blades of grass just to score an egg or two, possibly three. Easter, a colorful day from green, yellow, red, pink, blue, orange, and all shades in between. But when did I enjoy Easter most?

The Greatest Easter Basket Hunt

Four brothers and sisters fighting over the same eggs, the same baskets, the same chocolate bunny. But one year my folks did something a little different, the ultimate Easter basket hunt for those wanting a basket at all. It was their own way to share what comes from true team work and the offering of effort through the greatest hunt of all. When we woke up there was a note on the table, a riddle that led us to a destination where another riddle would be.

Turns out my older sister and brother were in on it as they drove us to the first destination which happened to be the corner convenient store. Standing was the owner of the store behind the counter with a paper in his hand with the riddle which led us to the next destination. Pretty soon it all came clear, the entire town seemed in on this eventful exploration towards our Easter baskets.

From one location to the next, riddles, riddles, riddles until a riddle took us towards my grandparents home. At last, the baskets as our grandparents gave us the final riddle. But where were they? In the trunk the entire time.

And that gave us a new meaning to Easter. To enjoy the hunt for what it was worth. I'll never forget my older sister laughing when the trunk popped open and our mouths hit the floor. It was priceless.

But this year Easter is going to mean much more than this to me. As my own children will explore the high and low grounds of great Easter egg hunting with the mapping system of a keen eye my thoughts will be wondering of the grand scheme in tradition. Will next year be the year where they travel from store to store in order to locate the next riddle which leads them to their golden eggs and baskets of surprise?

Easter, a time to resurrect new ideas surrounding great Easter traditions. Easter, memories of sifting through riddles to reach the grand destination. Easter, a time of believing, a time for retrieving, a time to imagine the greatest Easter of all.

Happy Easter everyone.

This story reminds me of when I was a kid at Easter.
