Eastern Guilford High School offers a large variety of classes for the students. Not only are there core curriculum classes, such as math, English, science and social studies, there is a wide variety of elective classes. Students can choose between general classes, honors or advanced placement for their core classes. Honors and advanced placement classes award the students with higher grade point averages, but are very challenging. Students can choose between several different foreign languages, dance, medical careers, music, band, technology, home living, parenting skills, computers, yearbook, weighlifting and a variety of other classes for their elective courses.
The school has a great team of teachers, administrators, counselors and other staff. They genuinely care about the students and make every effort to go above and beyond the call of duty. Because of this, there is not very much violence at Eastern Guilford. Compared to other schools in the district, Eastern does not have a great amount of "cliques" within the school. For the most part, everyone gets along well with one another.
Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities that Eastern Guilford has to offer. Students can try out for volleyball, softball, baseball, football, golf, cheerleading, dance team, basketball and colorguard. The school has a great band and colorguard that has won an extensive amount of awards and trophy's at competition. After school clubs are also available to students that are interested in learning more about a particular subject or engaging themself in a club.
Unfortunately, Eastern Guilford High School was tragically destroyed by fire in 2006. The school system is planning on rebuilding the school when funds are completely available. It is ashame that such a great school has been taken down, but it will be rebuilt.
