Wine Lovers Find Great Wines in Iowa

Wine lovers can rejoice in the variety of wineries located throughout Eastern Iowa. These wineries combine passion for great wine and the art of wine making with each visitor that steps foot into their wine tasting rooms.

A few of the favorite Eastern Iowa Wineries are outlined below:

Wallace Winery located in West Branch is right to ff the Herbert Hoover Highway. This distinct winery makes thirteen varieties of wine including whites, reds and dessert wines. Their web site provides a virtual tasting room for visitors to explore at home.

Daly Creek Winery is nestled in the quaint town of Anamosa. This winery uses some of their own grapes as well as others grown in the Midwest and California to produce six of their own wines. If you go consider trying their Winemaker's Reserve, Cabernet Sauvignon with a niche blend of blackberry and hints of oak or the Gothic White, White Table Wine named after the American Gothic painting by Grant Wood who once lived in the Anamosa area.

In addition to the history and unique shops in the Amana Colonies, wine lovers can explore a number of Eastern Iowa wineries in the area. The Ackerman Winery has three locations in the Amana Colonies. They have a variety of wines available from exotic fruit to traditional grape varieties. Another winery in the Amana Colonies to stop and visit is the Village Winery. This winery produces fifteen varieties of fruit and berry wines with each using family formulas passed down from generations. Other wineries worth visiting include the Little Amana Winery and Sandstone Winery.

Located just outside of the Amana Colonies, the Fireside Winery in Marengo provides wine lovers with a wonderful selection of wines. The winery overlooks the vineyard and offers wonderful views of the rolling Eastern Iowa landscape. They currently offer fifteen wine varieties and hold tastings throughout the week and on the weekends.

Another Eastern Iowa Winery is the Tabor Home Vineyards and Winery located in Baldwin. This family owned winery overlooks rolling farm fields and grape covered arbors providing a wonderful backdrop to add to the wine tasting experience. They offer a full selection of wines including reds, whites, and dessert wines. Favorites are the Iowa St. Croix and the Barn Dance Red. During the summer, special events include music in the vineyards be sure to check out their web site for the schedule.

    I was just thinking about doing an article on Iowa wines. I did a search to see if anything had been written, and I found this. Fireside wine is always in my wine rack. I have visited Ackerman winery more times that I can count. Thanks for writing this; I shall get to work on my take of some of the local wineries. Great to have some Iowa coverage!
