Eastman Kodak Brownie Holiday Camera 1953-1962

Our Family Recieved This Camera for Christmas and Used it for Many Years

Mary Martin
This Eastman Kodak Brownie Holiday Camera was under our family's Christmas tree one year. The family shared the camera and it went on many family trips, vacations, to camp, and numerous other destinations for years.

This small camera has a brown plastic case with a rather long strap for carrying. The strap allowed it to be worn rather than being carried which was a great feature. The camera was originally part of a set with a flash unit and it all came neatly packaged in a sturdy box. This camera was produced between the years of 1953 and 1962.

These little cameras were very sturdy and stood up well to use and even abuse. Many family members dropped it, left it in the car in sun and cold, and exposed it to all sorts of treatment. The camera not only survived but continues to operate well.

These cameras are in most vintage shops and antique shops. Some still have the original packaging and all of the accessories that came with them. Our family used this camera a lot. The packaging, flash unit and any other accessories we either lost, broken or quit working.

The camera took great pictures and allowed our family to record many family outings, vacations and family holiday gatherings. Many memories were captured with this little camera and now the camera is itself a memory. I do remember wearing the camera as well as other family members wearing the camera. It seems funny now but it was very commonplace then.

The Brownie Holiday Camera was a great gift for our family. It was certainly sturdy enough for all of our family members to use. It was small enough to tuck into a bag as well as being able to be placed around a neck. The film was easy to obtain and easy to load.

I must say as wonderful as this camera was I am so glad to own and use a digital camera. What a great advancement. Memories are great and we were fortunate to own this camera but I am glad that technology has brought us such wonderful new products.
