Eastwick Canceled by ABC; Low Ratings to Blame
ABC Decided to Cancel Eastwick on the Same Day They Ordered More Episodes of The Forgotten
Eastwick is of course the television version of The Witches of Eastwick, which was originally a novel and made it to a movie that starred Jack Nicholson and Michelle Pfeiffer back in 1987. The novel written by John Updike provided much more source material than was revealed in the movie, and the hope was that a television audience would fall in love with the characters. It seemed like that would indeed be the case at least in the first week, because Eastwick was able to pull in just under nine million viewers for the season premiere. If they had been able to hold those ratings numbers or improve upon them, the show probably would still be safe.
In recent weeks, the ratings for Eastwick have struggled a bit, and the lead that ABC has had in the hour over Jay Leno has dwindled quite a bit. It seems that both ABC and CBS really want to make sure that they win the 10 P.M. slot every night over The Jay Leno Show, and it looked like Eastwick might give up that lead if they kept it on the air. The numbers were still good enough to beat Leno, but when the total viewers fell to around four million per episode it seems that ABC was ready to jump ship on Eastwick. It's also possible that ABC had other plans ready for the spring on the network, especially with Lost coming back for its final season.
The decision to cancel Eastwick isn't going to sit well with the die-hard fans, and it means that the run of Eastwick will end with 13 episodes. ABC hasn't made it clear if they will run all of the episodes or not, but until we hear otherwise, assume that Eastwick will be on for the next few weeks before they run out of new episodes to show. This also marks the end of another Lindsay Price show, as she has had trouble keeping steady work with the fickle world of television.

Post a CommentI really liked Eastwick and have never even heard of the Forgotten....what the heck bring it back!!!! This is the first message I have ever left on the internet, obviously it was good, the story line was just getting great. They were almost beginning to control them, and all the actresses were very good and cute little ladies....Reconsider it and put it back on...that's all.
I stopped watching TV a few years ago because I am soooo not interested in reality TV. I have enough reality in my own life that I don't need to wallow is someone else's excuse for a life. Eastwick was a nice break from the cheap trash that is being shoved down our throats as "entertainment". So, of course they would cancel it!!!
PLEASE I HOPE SOMEONE IMPORTANT WILL READ THIS!!

I don't understand why they can't give it a chance. It was unique for their network and a great way to get away for an hour. They need to commit to what they put on TV before they keep canceling good shows! Flash Forward too is a favorite and now canceled, it's BS...
Sad Sad Sad .. I really enjoyed Eastwick, and I so wish it was coming back ... their story line could have gone all over the place, and kept us on our toes!! I guess you only have a choice between Lost, reality or more doctor shows than needed if your going to have the channel on ABC. I guess I will stick with comedy.
I hate that they just left us hanging. I wish it will be picked up by another network.
Eastwick was one of my favorite shows! Why did they cancel it? I hate ABC!
I was wondering what happened to the show. I really enjoyed it also. I guess they need room for more stuoid reality shows.
Eastwick just needed to catch on and it would have, but when a network doesn't give it a chance that hurts us loyal viewers. They love reality tv because they pay the "talent" next to nothing. I thought NBC sucked due to poor choices (time slots, shows, etc.), but with this horrible decision....ABC tops them all!!!
I really loved eastwick an its unbelievable that its been canceled!!! PLEASE PLEASE someone bring it back!!!!!!
