1) Tower Of Cookies. Who doesn't love Christmas cookies? Cookies are easy to make, and they are affordable. If your really in the holiday spirit you can bake cookies from scratch. However, for those of us who aren't meant to be bakers, you can find a large selection of pre-measured mixes, or slice and bake cookies at your local grocery store. To create a tower, you will need to make three different types of cookies. Sugar cookies, Peanut Butter cookies, and Chocolate Chip cookies are the three most enjoyed cookies to bake. You will also need to buy three different sized tins or containers to place your cookies in. The best place to find cheap containers and tins are at discount stores such as Biglots, The Dollar Tree, and Walmart. Once the cookies are baked, line the inside of your container with wax paper. Next place your top layer of cookies, then add another layer of wax paper, placing more cookies on top of that, and so on until the container is full. Use each different container for a different flavor of cookie. Once all the containers are full, stack them on top of one another creating a tower using double faced tape between them. The double faced tap will help hold them in place. Finally tie ribbon around them, and add a bow.
TIPS:
You can also fill your containers with candies, fudge, cinnamon rolls, and so on.
Be sure that your cookies are cool before placing them in the containers.
Be sure to use wax paper between layers to prevent them from sticking.
You can use one tin of mixed cookies as a gift as well. These are great for teachers, neighbors, and co-workers.
2) Hot Coco For One. To make a hot coco gift set all you need is a coffee mug, hot coco mix, and peppermint sticks. Start with the coffee mug, which you can find at discount stores for a dollar, sometimes even two for a dollar. Fill the mug half way with shred paper. You can use construction paper, or even wrapping paper. Next place the coco packets inside, standing up. You can find hot coco mixes for a dollar of so and most of them come with 8 to 12 packets. You'll only need to or three packs per mug, so one box is enough to make 4 gifts. Next add your peppermint sticks, or peppermint candy canes if you can't find any. Set the entire mug in a clear cellophane goodie bag. You can find these at most discount stores, and every party store. They usually come 20 in a pack, and cost a dollar or so. Add a bow to the top, and a name tag, and your gift is ready to go.
TIPS:
You can also use tea in place of hot coco, and use cinnamon sticks in place of peppermint.
3) Popcorn Night. We all love a snack while we watch television. The popcorn night gift set is very simple to make, and fun to eat. You will need a large plastic bowl, a pack of microwave popcorn, a can of soda, and a box of candy. Add one additional bag of popcorn for two or more people, and one soda, and candy per extra person. Example: If the gift is for a family of five you will need 2 bags of popcorn, 5 sodas, and 5 packs of candy. Start with the large plastic bowl. Fill it half way with shred paper. Next add the bag(s) of popcorn, soda, and candy. Cover the entire gift with cellophane, and add a bow.
TIPS:
If the gift is for one person, use a 20 ounce soda, or you can use a 2 litter for an entire family depending on the size of your bowl.
If your budget allows for it, you can toss in a $5.00 gift card to your local movie rental store.
These gifts are all very simple, and enjoyable ideas that anyone can make. The trick is, you must shop around. Keep and eye out and see who's got what on sale. My personal favorite is the popcorn night. I get the bowl, box of candy, and popcorn at the dollar store. Toss in a soda, and for less the $5.00 I have a wonderful fun gift to hand out. I hope you enjoy these ideas, and have a Happy Holiday.
