Easy Art Projects for Mother's Day: Made by Kids

Mother's Day Gifts from Little Kids

Laura Ewers
Here are some really easy art projects that kids can make for Mother's day to show their moms how much they love them.

Painted Flower Pot
Need: A flower pot of any size preferably terra cotta
Acrylic Paint in lots of colors
Pain brushes
Optional - Something to plant and dirt (seeds or a small plant such as flowers)

Make sure the pot is clean and dry before you being. Take the pot and either start painting on it right away or draw something on it such as a sunflower with the words "You are my Sunshine, MOM" After your pot is painted allow it to dry before giving to your mother or planning in it.

Recipe Box
Need: 3 sheets of felt any color (same color works best)
Scissors
Glue stick
White craft glue (could also use school glue but craft glue holds better)
Empty cardboard box- such as an envelope box
An old greeting card, clip art picture, or photo.

First take the cardboard box and trim top flaps off. Then cover box, inside and out, with 2 sheets of the felt. Use the glue stick for most of the application; secure seams and ends with white craft glue (or school glue). From the 3rd sheet of felt cut 4 long strips about 1" wide. Trim sides of each felt strip to add curves, or you can cut with decorative scissors to give them a scalloped look. (This is optional if you want this look). Glue the strips onto each corner to cover any seams.

Cut out a pretty picture from an old greeting card, a piece of clip art, or a photo and glue it on card stock. Glue the picture to the front of the box.

Cut out small hearts from the greeting card and glue them onto the front of the box for further decoration. (This is optional).

Cupcake Love
Need: a baked cupcake
Decorations for cupcake (frosting, candies, ect)
Plate and napkin

Or option for ones to small to help bake
Draw a cupcake
And color it and decorate it with sparkles, glitter, and sequence.
On a piece of paper folded like a card
After you have either drawn or baked your cupcake and it is decorated either write on the napkin or on the inside of the card depending on what you are doing the words " Mom you are the icing on my cake, thanks so being so sweet"

Mommy's Little Hands

Need: Acrylic paint (recommends red, pink, blue, green, or purple)
Card stock any color (white works best)
Child's hands
Paper plate for paint
Plenty of soap and water

First fold the card stock to make a card. Then pour the paint on to the paper plate. Next dip the child's hands into the paint making sure to cover them on the inside (palm). Then carefully place the child's hands or hand depending on the size onto the paper (make sure the paper is still facing like a card would open). Then carefully lift hand (s) off of the paper to reveal handprints. Allow to dry. During this time use the soap and water and wash those hands. Once dry open the card and on the inside write a message to your mom such as.

"Sometimes you get discouraged
Because I am so small
And always leave my fingerprints
On furniture and walls

But every day I'm growing --
I'll be grown some day
And all those tiny handprints
Will surely fade away

So here's a little handprint
Just so you can recall
Exactly how my fingers looked
When I was very small"

Then write your name and the date under it so mom can treasure it forever.

These crafts are sure to make your mother smile and reminder her that you love her each and everyday. Have a wonderful Mother's day.
