Easy Bible School Crafts

Some learn by reading; some learn by listening; others learn by doing.

Here are a couple of Bible School crafts ideas, using topics, to help the latter group learn and remember lessons found in the Bible.

Faith

Matthew 17:19-20 "Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, 'Why could we not cast it out?' He said to them, 'Because of your little faith. For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you."

You will need:
1. depending on your budget, small clay pots or disposable cups.
2. potting soil and seeds. Make sure to choose seeds that are easy to grow in your area. Mustard seeds require a cold atmosphere and relatively moist soil. If you area has these conditions, the use of mustard seeds would be most appropriate.
3. wide clear tape
4. coloring and writing utensils
5. scissors and glue

Before you plant your seeds, you will need to decorate the container.

For the decorations you will need a strip of paper with the picture of a germinating seed and the scripture "If you have faith the size of a mustard seed...nothing will be impossible to you."

Little children will color the picture and then paste the pre-printed strip on the container.

Older children will color the picture, write the scripture on the strip, and paste the strip on the container.

With wide clear packing tape, cover the strip of paper so that it will not get wet. Older children may be able to do this on their own, but the little ones will require your intervention. If you use clay pots, given that they are porous and water will seep through, you may want to apply the clear tape on the container first, then paste the paper strip and cover it with another piece of clear tape. By doing so, the strip should remain dry.

Once the strip has been placed on the container, follow the directions on the seed packets for planting.

Allow the seeds to germinate for the length of time given on the packet. After that, you can send them home with the children for them to remember how their faith, like the seeds, can grow.

Families

The Bible is full of scriptural reference about families and their structure.
Adam and Eve set up a home in the world outside after they left the garden. Since they were the first husband and wife, they made up the first family. Families are important to God.

To help the children realize families are important and how members are all connected to each other and they are all part of one big family, help them create their own family tree.

You will need
1. printout of a tree per child
2. several cut outs of apples per child
3. coloring utensils
4. scissors and glue sticks.
5. pictures of each child's family members

Advance preparation. You will need to shrink the apple picture to create designs small enough to fit on the tree, yet large enough to write names and paste pictures.

Have the apples prepared for the small children; allow the older children to cut their own.

Have all children color the tree and the apples. As they color the tree and the apples, prepare the pictures for each child (pictures should include mom, dad, grandparents, and siblings). If children were unable to bring pictures, allow them to draw boy or girl pictures for each family member on a white piece of paper that will be cut to fit on the apple.

Once the pictures are ready (photographs or drawings), have the children paste them on the center of the apples and have them write the name of the family member below each picture. You may need to help the younger ones write the names.

After the apples are all assembled, the children can paste them on the family tree.

Older children should be able to place the pictures or drawings of the grandparents on the lower branches of the tree, adding the parents above them, and the children last on the rest of the tree.

At the bottom of the tree, they can write: Families are important to God.
