Easy Breakfast Recipes: How to Make the World's Best Flat Beer Pancakes

Tired of the Same, Old, Blah Pancake Recipe? Want to Try Something New in Breakfast Food?

Donald Pennington
With breakfast being the most important meal of the day, it's crucial that the recipe be good enough to even lure the most finicky of eaters. My pancakes will draw them in from all over the house! No matter how fussy anyone in your family can be, these pancakes will win them over. The recipe only needs one tiny, quick substitution of beer for milk, and just in case you don't already know how to make regular pancakes from scratch, just substitute milk for the beer. Ta-daa! Some people might believe there to be an issue for the beer in this recipe, to which I pre-emptively reply: 1) Any alcohol is cooked out, and 2) It makes a dramatic difference in the taste of the finished product. If you only want to serve this to other adults, okay, no problem.

What you'll need to assemble for the recipe of approximately six of the world's best flat beer pancakes:

1 egg
1 banana
2/3 cup of flat, room-temperature beer (I recommend either Budweiser or Corona. Just set some out, covered the night before.)
up to one-half-cup of flour (Usually white flour but buckwheat is delicious, too. Multi-grains can be interesting and tasty, also.)
butter, syrup to taste, and an appetite for something good. Remember the griddle, of course. I told you the recipe is easy. Didn't I?

Recipe instructions to cook approximately six of the world's best flat beer pancakes: In a 1-quart, or larger bowl, mash the banana until it's all but liquid. Mix the egg into the banana, and then stir in the beer. Mix well. About two, or maybe three Tablespoons at a time, mix the flour in until the batter is at the consistency of still being stir-able, and perhaps a few small lumps remain.

Batter should at least still be slowly pourable. Once the griddle is hot and well sprayed/ lightly-oiled, pour about a half cup onto the griddle and cook for approximately 90 seconds or until the raw side shows a small number of bubbles and the pancake is easily scooped up with a/an spatula/egg-turner and flipped. Cook the opposite side approximately 90 seconds, or until lightly browned on bottom.

Why is this recipe for the world's best flat beer pancakes so unique? The banana in the batter makes a cake so tasty, diners may not even want syrup on it. A little butter on top does great for some folks. Of course, let's not rule out syrup for everybody. Side these puppies up with an egg, or some side meat, and just one of these world's best flat beer pancakes will more than satisfy the hunger of most. Even clean-up is easy for this breakfast recipe.

This particular recipe does call for actual beer in the pancake batter. The alcohol is easily cooked out, but some folks are so sensitive, and easily offended, I just wanted to refuse to apologize right up front, here. Thank you.

I'm sure it makes a difference in the pancakes. We're alcohol-free around our house, but I'll bet these are great!

Never heard of this concoction, but it sounds like it is worth a try.

You can, Mrs Cornfield. But it's not the same.

Couldn't I just eat a plain pancake and wash it down with a beer?

  • Charlotte Kuchinsky1/25/2011

These sound good and I haven't eaten much food recently.

Sounds good! I'll give it a try! I put beer in my chili, so I'm sure I could put it in my pancakes! I would also like some nuts (pecans?) in the pancake.
