Easy Cake Decorating Tips

Denise
The holidays are always a baking time, and no matter what your skill, you can bake great looking cakes. With the right baking tools and tips you can bet that Your cakes will look just as nice as the ones on television!

The first thing to make a perfect cake is to know how to put on the frosting. Let the cake cool entirely before you put on the first layer of frosting. Start With just a thin coat for the first layer so as to not loosening it by making crumbs. Then, let it sit awhile, preferably in a cold place for A few minutes. Doing it that way, you won't have to worry about it crumbling anymore. For the next coat you'll use an icy spatula and spread it smoothly all around the cake.

Don't get upset if you don't get it perfect the first time. Just keep at it, the more you ice cakes the better it will look. Another way to decorate the top Of a cake instead of just icing, you can use cocoa or powdered sugar. Depending on the type of cake that you are making. To get Really fancy, try using a template design.

What I really like is using candies to decorate a cake. Find a template or use your own imagination and put whatever kind of tasty treats on your cake. Another way to decorate cakes is to use piping. If you don't have that kind of tool, you can use a plastic bag, cut out one corner at the tip, fill it with The icing, twist it and hold the other end and squeeze the icing out the opening you made to do the decorations that you want. Keep your other hand steady to guide the tip so as not to make a mistake with the designs. Make sure not to overload the bag with icing. I would put a little under one cup each time you need to use it.

Another way to decorate cakes is to use fondant. There won't be any need to put layers on as you can just use a fondant smoother to go over the cake giving it a beautiful look. When you put the fondant on the cake you always want to start at the top. Carefully use a little pressure as you put it on the cake, then go all the way around and steadily bring it down.

If you are having any holiday parties this month at work, or others homes this would be the time to practice, so that each time you make the cake, the better you'll be at it.

I'm terrible at icing cakes. I'll try some of your tips, though! Thanks.
