If your kids make these homemade keepsake ornaments each year, it also shows how much your children grow each year.
This Christmas angel has a footprint body and two handprint wings. (There are similar holiday decorations that you can make like this - finished products look like reindeer or Santa.)
The craft is made with paper, some crayons and or markers, scissors, string or ribbon and glue. You can also use a photo of the child or a picture from a magazine to make the face. Or you can simply use paper and markers to make a face.
Have the child stand on paper (or posterboard/craft foam) with feet together. Trace to form the robe/body of the angel.
Trace both of the child's hands separately on white paper. These handprints will form the wings. They look better if the fingers aren't spread too far apart.
Decorate robe and wings as desired. You can make simple angels or you can choose to get really elaborate and fancy. Some ideas to get your own creativity going include:
A) Fill in the wings with sparkles/sparkle glue or some holiday glitter.
B) Glue shiny paper or shreds to the robe or wings.
C) Glue ribbon to the center of the robe to look like a belt.
D) Let the child draw with markers or crayons.
E) Break up hard candies and glue the crumbles.
F) Glue tiny jingle bells or ribbon on the hem of the angel's robe.
Cut out a photo of the child or magazine picture to serve as the head. Once you see how big the body of the angel craft is, you'll know what size head you need (This will all depends on how big your child's feet are).
If you don't want to use a photo, you can cut out a circle or oval from paper and use markers or paint to make the face.
Assemble the angel (glue head and wings to the body).
You can also create a halo for your angel. For this special touch, you can use a pipe cleaner or ribbon shaped as a halo.
Be sure to write the child's name and the year on the back of the angel. This will help you track your child's growth over the years and also bring back specific holiday memories for years to come.
To finish the angel ornament, glue a small loop of ribbon on the back and let dry. This will allow you to hang the angel on your Christmas tree.
