Christmas is such a fun time for crafting. You can make an endless number of Christmas crafts to decorate your home. Below are some very easy Christmas crafts that you can make using inexpensive craft felt. These crafts are perfect for both kids and adults.

If you don't already have felt, you can buy sheets of craft felt (usually about 10 by 12 inches) in the kids craft section of any store. The sheets come in a wide variety of colors. You can also buy felt by the yard in any fabric store. Buying by the yard is good for larger felt projects.

Felt Christmas Ornaments

Felt Christmas ornaments are very easy to make, and they look wonderful hanging in your Christmas tree. You can make them as simple as you want, or you can spruce them up with twinkling gems and golden glitter.

To make felt ornaments, start by printing out some templates in Christmas shapes. Use simple shapes that do not have a lot of details. You can use these Christmas templates if you like. You can also make templates by tracing around cookie cutters.

Place your template pattern on two layers of felt and cut the felt around the pattern. Then attach the two pieces of felt together around the edge leaving an opening for stuffing. You can do this by gluing the pieces together, or hand stitching them together. You can also use a sewing machine if you like.

Stuff each ornament with cotton balls or pieces of cut up fabric scraps (great way to recycle old socks). Then close the opening either with glue or by sewing. Then decorate the ornament any way you want, or you can just leave it as is. Pass a piece of cord or thread through the top of each ornament and tie a loop so you can hang it in your Christmas tree.

Felt Christmas Stockings

You can quickly and easily make felt Christmas stockings for everyone in your family, including the pets! You can make the stockings any size you want, and you can decorate them however you wish. For little stockings, all you need are the smaller sheets of craft felt. For large stockings, you will need to buy felt by the yard.

Hand draw your stocking shape on paper to make a pattern or use this template. For large stockings, you can hand draw on newspaper to make a pattern.

Lay your pattern on top of the felt and cut. You will need two matching pieces. Glue the stocking pieces together or stitch around them, leaving the top open for filling the stocking. Then, using a needle, pass a piece of strong cord through the felt in the top corner of the stocking.

You can leave your stocking as is, or you can decorate it any way you want using glitter, buttons, bows, or even felt cut outs. You can also make a white cuff along the top of the stocking by cutting out a piece of white felt and gluing it on, or by gluing on a bunch of white cotton balls.

Remember, you can make Christmas crafts all year long. You do not have to wait for the holiday to be on top of you to start crafting for the holidays. In fact, if you are planning on making all your ornaments or other decorations, you need to start early. You can spend a day or two each month on Christmas crafts, then you'll be ready to decorate when the time comes!
