Easy Christmas Rag Wreath

Pearlygates
It's a wonderful feeling to be able to make a gift for the people you love. The problem is not everybody has the time or skill for making gifts or even something for their own home. This beautiful Christmas Rag Wreath is easy and quicker than most.

Materials needed for Christmas Rag Wreath

Christmas fabric, Christmas colors and or prints. At least 5 - 6 different colors or shades

A ten inch ( or larger ) straw wreath- keep the plastic covering on, if it does not have a
covering then wrap some saran wrap around it.

A tool for pushing the fabric in to the wreath. I use a bamboo skewer with the tip filed down a bit. A knitting needle could be used, a small crochet hook or even a dull pencil.

A four inch piece of sturdy wire

Starting your Christmas Rag Wreath

Gather all your fabric scraps together and tear in to 3"-3 ½" strips, and then tear or cut them into 3"- 3 ½" squares. If you have plenty of time and energy, you can cut the fabric with a pinking sheers. It adds a nice touch.

Take your fabric squares and your tool and push the middle of your fabric into the wreath about ½ inch. Repeat pushing in the different colors, until the desired thickness is achieved. You can work in rows around the wreath or just push the squares of fabric in with no rhythm or reason. Do not cover the back of the wreath.

To finish up your Christmas Rag Wreath

You will need to add a hanger on the back of your wreath. I use a sturdy piece of wire about 4 inches long. I curve it a bit, put it through the wreath about an inch and have it come out to twist in to a circle. That has always held it very well.

Other Rag Wreaths to make:

To make a wreath to coordinate in a certain room use 3 - 4 different colors from the room.

For a Spring wreath use all the pastel colored fabrics you love and you can loosely wrap a sheer ribbon around it for an added touch.

A wreath for Fall and Thanksgiving you would want yellows, oranges, reds and browns.
