Decorating your windows for Christmas is a great way to get in the holiday spirit and to make your house look very festive. I love decorating my house because it gets everybody ready for Christmas, and puts us all in a giving mood. These are my favorite ways to decorate the windows for Christmas. These easy window decorating ideas will help you get started decorating your house to make it the most festive house on the block.

Make a Tree Cutout: Get a large piece of cardboard that is the size of the window you are decorating. It will look best if you paint it green or red but if you don't have the time it will still look great. Then use a pencil to trace the shape of a large Christmas tree on it. Then use an xacto knife to cut out the shape of the tree. Once you have prepared the cardboard use painters tape to tape it into the window. You can get very creative and do different shapes rather then a Christmas tree. Snowmen and Santa's are also great shapes. If you have a large window or several window next to each other you can create a simple winter scene. This looks great during the day, and at night the light will shine through the cardboard to make it look even more festive.

Paint: You can buy washable paints for glass, you will often find these made for decorating cars. This is a great project to do with kids. You can go crazy and paint on the outside of your windows. You can paint anything you can imagine. Snowmen are fun and easy to paint. You can let kids have fun painting Christmas scenes, or even have them write letters to Santa. This is a great project because it is all easily washable, and will come perfectly clean when the holidays are over.

Paper Snowflakes
: There are several ways to do this project, and kids can easily be included. You can simply have your kids cut snowflakes out of blue and white construction paper then use fishing line to hang them in the windows. Another way of doing this is get a large sheet of tissue paper, and cut it to the size of your window. Then cut many snowflakes out all over the paper. Then use painters tape to place in your window. If you do this project and you have pets or small children make sure the window is high enough that they won't be able to pull on the snowflakes or rip the paper.

Use Leftover Tree Trimmings: Once you have finished decorating your tree you always have a few leftover ornaments and strings of beads. Hang the beads loosely in your windows to create swags of beads. You can hang ornaments on the beads, or you can use fishing line to hang individual ornaments in each window. This is a great way of using leftover decorations. You can also buy very inexpensive ornaments at discount stores that will look great in your windows. Icicle ornaments will look great if you line then up and hang them in your windows.

Use Fake Candles:
Candles always look beautiful in windows, but they can be very dangerous. The great news is this year many companies are making flame less candles that look just as beautiful as real candles. Glade is one company that offers a beautiful selection of flame less candles that are safe in any household. Candles look great from inside and outside the house. By using flame less candles you can leave them on all night without having to worry about blowing them out.
