Salt can be used for different things, such as giving our food a bit of flavor or use it to cook with. Salt can also be an excellent cleaning tool. You can use salt to clean a variety of things, such as your fireplace, carpet, and even restore a grease stain on your favorite rug. Here are some simple and easy clean-up solutions using salt.

When you are ready for bed and the fire in your fireplace is still glowing, you can use salt to douse out the flames. Use salt to quickly burn out the flames faster, and this will prevent the fire from smoldering and producing more soot.

The salt is also an excellent clean-up tool for when it is time to sweep out the fireplace. The salt will help the ashes and the residue to gather so it will make sweeping easier.

Next time your hosting a party at your home and red wine is accidentally spilled onto your carpet, don't worry, you can easily remove it with some salt. While the red wine is still wet, try and pour some white wine on the stain to help dilute the red coloring. Next, get a sponge and some cold water and blot up as much of the liquid as you possibly can, do not rub the stain.

Now sprinkle a generous amount of salt on the area of the stain to soak up excess liquid. Let the salt sit for about ten minutes, and then vacuum up the mess. The stain should disappear and reveal a clean, undamaged carpet.

There is an easy way to clean up a grease stain from your favorite rug with using salt. Mix a solution of one part salt to four parts rubbing alcohol. Take the solution and rub it hard on the grease stain, it's important to rub in the direction of the rug's natural nap to prevent further staining.

It can be really frustrating to find watermarks left behind on your wood furniture. You don't have to live with it because you can easily remove these marks with some salt. Mix a solution of one teaspoon of salt with a few drops of water until it forms into a paste.

Take this paste and rub the offending watermark with a sponge or a soft cloth. Keep working the paste into the watermark until it disappears. Then you can polish the wood with some furniture polish to restore your wood furniture to its original beauty.
