Easy Craft: How to Make a Homemade Bookmark

David Farrell
Making homemade bookmarks is a great craft to recycle extra pictures while saving money. This easy bookmark craft is also a great craft for kids. Here are the instructions to make the homemade bookmark craft.

For this project, you will need:

Construction paper

Clear Contact paper

Picture(s) (Can be a prayer card, from a calendar or Christmas card, drawing, etc.)

How to make bookmark craft step #1: Procure the materials:

Construction paper or any colored paper will work well as a backdrop for the project. Colored cardstock can be used if a thicker homemade bookmark craft is desired. Clear Contact paper can be either found around the house or purchased at a hardware store. Pictures that can be used in this project can be prayer cards, extra funeral cards, pictures cut out from a calendar, pictures from Christmas cards or other cards, your own artwork, or photographs.

How to make bookmark craft step #2: Make the backdrop:

Fold the construction paper in half twice. One sheet of construction paper should be enough to make four projects. Assuming the construction paper is roughly 8x12, the homemade bookmark craft will be 8x3. If the pictures are larger, you can make the project wider.

How to make bookmark craft step #3: Add the pictures to the project:

Depending upon the size of the pictures, you may desire to use more than one on the bookmark craft. You can also include blank spaces, a written message, or something else that takes up the space so the project looks nice. If the reverse of the picture needs to also be displayed, cut a window in the construction paper.

How to make bookmark craft step #4: Make the back of the homemade bookmark craft:

Place the contact paper on the homemade bookmark craft. This will hold the front of the project in place. Press down on the contact paper so it sticks. Turn the project upside down. The back of the homemade bookmark craft does not have to be left blank. Place pictures on the back of the project. Add any writing and make the finishing touches.

How to make bookmark craft step #5: Seal the project:

Fold the contact paper so the contact paper folds right at the edge of the construction paper. Seal the back of the project with the contact paper. Cut the contact paper so it extends about half an inch past the end of the project, then press and smooth the project to ensure the contact paper holds. Cut away the extra contact paper and your homemade bookmark craft is complete.
