Egg holders also make wonderful keepsake gifts and name place markers for guests. Just personalize the holder with the guest's name using markers, foam letters, or fabric paints.
Materials:
Foam Sheet (choose a variety of spring colors or colors or select complimentary colors to enhance your table presentation)
Pink Foam Sheet (for bunny head)
White or Grey Pipe Cleaners
Wiggle Eyes
Stapler and Staples
Craft Glue
Scissors
Instructions:
Cut a six-inch by one-inch rectangle from foam sheet.
Note: If you are going to personalize the egg holder with guest names, you may want to add them now prior to forming the egg holder circle. Be sure to leave enough room at the narrow edges to join the ends together and to leave room for other embellishments, if desired.
Overlap narrow edges of foam rectangle slightly and staple to form a circle. This is the base of the egg holder and it is now ready to be decorated!
Cut a two -to- three inch tall bunny head shape from the pink foam board. Shape may be cut free-hand (as pictured) or by using a stencil or pre-designed shape cut from cardboard. (Stencils and pre-designed shapes are easiest for children to use.)
Determine where the bunny's eyes will go and glue two wiggle eyes on the face of the bunny head.
Cut two one-inch lengths of pipe cleaner. Twist the two pipe cleaner lengths together (in the center) to form anX shape. These are the bunny whiskers. Glue the bunny whiskers under the bunny eyes.
Glue or staple the bunny head (face side up) to the foam egg holder circle. Viola! You now have a cute bunny egg holder.
Tip: If you would like to be more elaborate with this craft, you could easily add bunny pompom noses and cut out ear centers from foam sheets to embellish the bunny.
Substitutes: Yarn is a good substitute for pipe cleaner to form the whiskers and if you do not have wiggle eyes, small foam circles will work well. With a little imagination, you can customize the bunny to suit your craft preferences or to work with the tools you have on hand.
Ideas: Want to create more than bunnies? Use these ideas to inspire you:
- Craft egg shapes to attach to the egg holder circle. Decorate them with foam circles, zig zags, or glitter (pictured.)
- Tie a pipe cleaner around the egg holder circle and twist into a bow for a simple "gift wrapped" look (pictured.)
- Use die-cut shapes or buttons to decorate the egg holder circle.
- Create baby chick shapes, flowers, or other Easter inspired shapes from foam to use to attach to the egg holder.
