Crafting cup cake toppers is a great way to involve your children in the Fourth of July celebration preparations and they'll love the "oohs" and "ahhs" they'll receive when their efforts are presented.
Fourth of July Cupcake Toppers
Materials Needed:
Construction Paper, Foam Paper, or Cardboard in Patriotic Colors (Red, White, Blue, Gold, and so on.)
Optional- Star and Circle Stencils
Toothpicks
Glue
Instructions:
Ideally, bake, cool, and frost cupcakes prior to creating Fourth of July Cupcake Toppers. This way, you will have more time to help your child create the Fourth of July Cupcake Toppers and you will be able to use them immediately upon drying, rather than making the child wait, saving you those numerous "Are they ready yet?" moments!
Cut construction paper (or foam paper/cardboard) into three (3) inch star and circle shapes and one (1) inch star shapes. Make a one (1) inch star shape for every three (3) inch star and circle shape that you cut out. Alternate colors to ensure variety of color matching.
Glue a one (1) inch star onto the center of a three (3) inch star or circle shape. Use complementary colors, not matching colors, such as a gold star shape glued onto a blue circle shape (pictured.)
Glue the top one-third (1/3) of the toothpick to the back of the three (3) inch star or circle shape, leaving two-thirds (2/3) of the toothpick free to insert into the top of the cupcake.
Allow glue to dry.
When glue is completely dry, pick up Fourth of July Cupcake Topper and insert the toothpick end into the top of the cupcake. Viola! You will now have a festive Fourth of July cupcake ready to dazzle your guest with your child's creativity.
Additional Ideas:
Use white frosting for the cupcakes and sprinkle with patriotic color decorative toppings such as colored sugar or red, white, and blue sprinkles prior to inserting Fourth of July Cupcake Toppers.
Instead of cutting out a one (1) inch star for the center, use flag stickers or other Fourth of July inspired stickers instead.
