Easy to Craft Snowman Candle Holder
Create This Whimsical Christmas Decoration to Add a Glow to the Holidays
Materials:
6" inch glass bowl (shaped like a mini fish bowl)
frosted glass spray paint, glass paint (black)
paint brush, orange polymer clay
a golf tee
craft wire mesh
scissors
a soup can
glue gun/glue sticks
a votive candle
Directions:
Make sure you are crafting your snowman candle holder in a well ventilated area and be sure to cover your work surface with newspaper or plastic.Begin by spraying the bowl with the frosted glass paint, allow the paint to dry completely. Once the first coat has dried, apply one more coat of frosted glass paint to create a nice frosty winter look to your snowman candle holder.
Once the frosted paint has dried, use the paint brush and black glass paint to add the eyes and mouth to your snowman candle holder. Using about a 1/2 ounce of the polymer clay, roll the clay in your hands until it is soft and easy to use. Next, roll the clay into the shape of a small cone. Push the golf tee into the center of the polymer clay. Roll and shape the clay around the golf tee to form the carrot nose. Bake the clay carrot shaped nose for approx. 15 minutes in a 250 degree oven or according to the manufacturer's directions. Let the clay carrot nose cool. Using the hot glue, attach the carrot nose to your snowman candle holder.
Now you are ready to make a wire mesh hat for your snowman candle holder. Please be very careful when cutting and handling the wire mesh, so not to cut yourself. You may want to wear thick rubber gloves, just to be safe. Now begin cutting a 9" circle from the wire mesh. Next, take the circle of wire mesh and center it over your soup can. Press the wire mesh all around the can, to form the shape of the hat. Now make a brim for the hat by folding up the edge of the wire mesh all around the can. Remove the hat from the can.
Now place a votive candle (that's in it's own votive holder) and place it inside the snowman candle holder. You have finished crafting your snowman candle holder.
Tip: To add a decorative touch, you can use thin wired Christmas ribbon to add a bow to the brim of the hat using hot glue.
Caution:Never leave lit candles unattended.
