Step one: Make sure your hair is fully dry. If your hair is still wet or damp, your poof will not turn out right. Part hair directly down the center, starting at your forehead.
Step two: Using a brush, begin to collect a small section of hair at the very front of your head in the center of your forehead. It's up to you how much hair you want, just know that the more hair you collect into this section, the bigger and taller the poof will be.
Step three: Take the section of hair from the center and brush it straight up while holding onto it with your other hand.
Give this section a pump or two of hairspray. I like to use Aussie Instant freeze Hairspray.
Step four: About 3 1/2 inches from the start of the hair, give this section a full twist. Lay section flat on your head and push it forward. Doing this will create the "poof." This is similar to a topknot but smaller and at the front of your head. Secure with several pins and be sure to spray with a lot of hairspray. Otherwise, it could fall lopsided, and look ridiculous.
Step 5: I like to wear the rest of my hair straight, so at this point i use a straightener on all of my hair that is not secured in the "poof." However, this style also looks great with curly hair, or even with the rest of your hair pulled back in a loose bun or a side pony tail.
This hair style works particularly well with thin hair because it adds a great illusion of body and volume. My hair is extremely thin, so I wear this hairstyle almost everyday.
I have bangs, so I create my poof directly behind them. If you don't have bangs, you can create yours at the very front of your head descending back from your forehead. Just be careful not to comb to much hair into the poof section, otherwise it will be enormous and you will look like Amy Winehouse.
