Easy and Delicious Ways to Improve Your Diet

1. Eat a lot. You may be thinking Won't I gain weight? The answer is an affirmative No!So long as you do it correctly. Rather than eating three over-stuffed meals, divide a daily amount of calories between 4-6 light meals. This will leave you feeling comfortably full and keeps your metabolism working. Such planning can actually aid weight loss and give the body more energy.

2. Cut the meat. Meat is high-cholesterol, bad for the environment, cruel, and not as healthy as eating straight from the source. Many question the availability of protein in the absence of meat, but those who avoid meat often receive a healthier portion of protein. Why eat the high-cholesterol meat for the nutrients when you can bypass the fatty animal and head straight for the nutrients?

3. Don't drink soda. There is no better way to tear up one's stomach than to drink an acidic, artificially flavored, sweetener-packed bottle of pop. The high sugar in regular sodas also can cause a loss of energy. Rather than soda, try some refreshing tea with a bit of lemon or lime. White tea can be especially good in the summer. Another excellent choice is juice. Just make sure the label reads "100% Juice." Juice "cocktails" are full of artificial sweetener. Possibly the most overlooked alternative to soda is seltzer water. This beverage comes in numerous great flavors and costs next-to-nothing.

4. Eat fruits and vegetables daily. Most people don't realize the nutritional benefits they miss by skipping the fruits and vegetables. Most of the vitamins humans require can be found in a daily portion of fruits and vegetables. Each type of fruit and vegetable has a different nutritional structure, so make sure to eat a variety of them.

5. Take a daily supplement. The American diet, even for those that attempt to eat healthy, often comes up slightly short on nutrients. Taking a daily supplement can almost completely remedy this situation for the savvy meal-planner. Just make sure not to fall for a gimmick vitamin supplement. One of the best on the market is the "Super Supplemental" offered by Nature's Sunshine.

6. Don't over-season. Smothering meals in salt, sugar, butter, or the like serves to counter-act the nutritional benefits of an otherwise healthy meal. That's not to say seasoning is a bad thing, rather many just season without taking any notice of nutritional value.

7. Read labels. This is where many draw the line, because it normally means cutting food. People don't realize that often unexpected foods turn out to be really healthy, and a general knowledge of the nutritional values of the food you eat can aid in making the best purchasing decisions in the future. For example, did you know that: rice is rich in protein, juice is full of vitamin C, and Oreo cookies are actually vegan cookies?

8. Eat at home. The best way to ensure a healthy meal is to make it yourself. Restaurants often produce some staggeringly high-calorie, high-cholesterol meals. It wouldn't be uncommon for a single restaurant meal to total well over 1,000 calories.
