Easy Digital Photograph Projects for Kids

Ann Siper
I recently read Digital Photograph Projects: Photo Projects for Kids. It is a great article that lists a variety of craft projects and activities kids can make using digital photographs. Inspired, I had to write down a few of my own ideas and projects for using digital photographs. I have four nieces and nephews and they love taking photographs. You can hardly get them of off the camera when on e is around. Teaching them to take good photos can be a little time consuming though. So as an incentive for them to take better photographs, we started making some fun projects out of the photos.

Here are a few different project s and crafts you can make with kids out of digital photographs:

1. Decoupage Box

Ok, so this project can easily be a jewelry box or even jut a keepsake box for kids. Have the kids run out and take some egret photos. Any subject in the photo would be fine. They should print out the photo on some heavy whit paper, but not on any glossy photo paper. While they can sue that, there easy no need to waste that pricey paper when something less expensive will do. Print the picture out to fit the top of your wooden box. You can buy a great selection of well made wooden craft boxes at Michaels Arts ands crafts as well as any craft or hobby store. Now, cut the picture out, be sure to leave a small white boarder o paper. Now, paint on some decoupage on the lid to the box. Lay the printed digit's photo out on the decoupage. Smooth any wrinkle out with your hands. Now, paint on another protective layer of decoupage. Let this dry and you are finished! Now, you can use multiple small photographs printed form you digital camera for this craft project. You could even make your box look like a suit case that ha stickers all over it. This decoupage would work well on the inside of the box as well.

2. Photo Hooks

I love this craft project because it gets kids involved in cleaning and organizing them home. You will need a coat hook, a wooden plaque, some screws; decoupage, a paintbrush and a picture hanging hook for this craft project.

Have the kids take some photos of each other and themselves. They can have fun taking a photo of themselves in the mirror, a picture of hair shadow, or fun pictures of each other doing their favorite activities.

Now, print these photos out to the size of your wooden plaque. Use you decoupage to apply the cut out digital photograph to the plaque. A coat below and on top of the photo is best. Now, let that dry.

Screw on the picture your hanging hook to the back of the plaque. Now, apply the coat hook to the front of the photo. You could buy the screw on kind of coat hook or even use those temporary coat hooks that remove easily.

Hang this on the wall in your front hall or mudroom and the kids have personalized coat hook that can keep their things off the floor!

You could also pre drill hole sin the plaque and screw it into the wall for more stability.

3. Photo pillows

Have the kids use some of the digital photos of themselves or their favorite things. Prints it out on some Kodak photo transfer paper. They can iron this onto a simple whit pillowcase. Now they have some customized bedding for their room!

For a more involved project by an 8"X8" pillow insert. Have the kids cut out 2 10"X10" square so fabric from the fabric store. They can print out their digital photo on the photo transfer paper. Have them iron it onto one of the square of fabric. They can use now se to sew the pillow together be sure to sew three sides with the picture facing the inside. Now, turn the pillow cover inside out. Insert the pillow insert. Now, folding the rough open edged. Iron this in flat with iron. Now, insert some more no sew and seal it shut. You could also use a sewing machine for this project t if you have one. If you do not like to sew at all you could buy a pre made pillow wand fabric cover and simply transfer the digital picture onto the pillow. This accent pillow is a great project they will love.
