1.Stand/Sit Up Straight
You lose more calories, no matter what you are doing, when you stand up straight. It is easy to slump, especially at the computer, so be conscious about your posture. Keep in mind that you look 10 pounds lighter standing straight, and ten pounds heavier slumping.
2. Get a pair of 2-lb dumbbells
Keep a couple light weight dumbbells at your desk, and when you're on the phone or deleting spam, take out the dumbbells and do a few repetitions with each arm. Go to SportChalet.com to order your weights today.
3. Stretch
Stretch whenever possible, whether you want to loosen up your back or strengthen your upper torso. It will strengthen and tone your muscles, and keep you refreshed and energized.
4. Flex
When you're at your computer and no one else is around, flex your abs, butt, and shoulders. This will tone and loosen your muscles.
5. Walk instead of taking the elevator
Is your office on the 15th floor? Great! You have 150 feet of stairs at your disposal to strength-train on. If your building is in an unsafe part of town, ask a co-worker to walk with you for safety and motivation.
6. Take public transportation
Taking the bus rather than taking your car to and from work not only helps your gasoline bills and the environment; it also forces you to exercise. Riding the bus often requires walking to at least one bus stop and then walking to your workplace or to your home, so you'll be constantly moving.
7. Ride a bike to work
Riding a bike to work will help you lose weight as well as wake you up and give you a chance to really enjoy the morning. Be sure to wear a helmet and drink plenty of water. Get your personalized water bottle at bottleyourbrand.com.
8. Get a fitness buddy
Getting a co-worker to exercise with you will motivate both you and your buddy to be healthy. You can share goals, recipes, success stories and frustrations with health partner.
9. Start a group of employees that stocks the break room with healthy snacks
Replace candy bars and processed foods with fruit, vegetables, and baked goods. Organize a group of co-workers who take turns providing fresh alternatives to the unhealthy vending-machine fare so common in break rooms.
10. Have a bowl of fruit on your desk instead of a bowl of candy
Having a bowl of healthy food around will make you more likely to actually eat it. And if you really want a candy bar, you can walk to the closest convenience store, buy some candy, and you will still be losing calories by walking.
11. Get a Stress Ball
Stressed out? Then get a stress ball. Repeatedly squeezing a stress ball or tennis ball will strengthen your hands, wrists, and arms, and will make you a more relaxed person.
Follow these eleven office exercise tips, and you'll soon be getting something priceless out of your 9-5 work day: health, well-being, and strength.
