Easy Facial Recipes for All Skin Types

Who wants to spend a fortune at the spa for a facial when you can make your own masks at home? Here are some great recipes that I have tried that will hopefully work for you as well.

OILY SKIN

One of my favorites is called a Banana Mask. For this, you'll need one ripe banana, one tablespoon of honey and one orange. Mash the banana with the honey, then add some of the juice from the orange. Mix well and set aside. Prepare your face by applying a warm washcloth. This helps to open up the pores so that the mixture gets deep down. Then apply the mixture to your face. Let it sit on your face for about 20 minutes before you wash it off with warm water. Splash your face with cool water to close up the pores.

Another great idea for oily, acne prone skin is applying Milk of Magnesia to your face. Don't use the flavored kind, just the plain kind. Leave it on your face for about 15 minutes, then rinse off with cool water.

A good mask to use in the summer is called the Carrot-Honey Mask. It will give your skin a nice glow. You'll need two large cooked carrots and 4 tablespoons of honey. Mash the cooked carrots with the honey, then apply to your face. Leave it on for 15 minutes, then rinse with cool water.

COMBINATION SKIN

This is my type of skin, and the best mask I have used includes just one egg white. Beat the egg white into a froth, then smear it on your face. After about 20 minutes, rinse it off with cool water. After using this mask, your skin will look clean and will feel tight. I like to use this a couple times per week for healthy looking skin.

Honey and ricotta cheese can make your skin feel clean and refreshed. All you have to do is mix honey with ricotta cheese, and apply it to your face. Leave it on for about 15 minutes then rinse with cool water. This mask is good in the morning to help wake you up.

DRY SKIN

One of the best facial recipes involves avocado and honey. These are very popular ingredients for face masks. For this mask, you'll need one avocado and 1/4 cup of honey. Mash the avocado, then mix in the honey. Apply to your face and let sit for 10 minutes. Finally rinse with cool water.

Another recipe for dry skin is includes one egg yolk, one teaspoon of honey and one teaspoon of olive oil. Mix it together, apply and leave on your face for 15 minutes. Then rinse the mask off with warm water. The oil will help restore moisture to your skin.

Egg yolks are great for dry skin, and for getting rid of pimples. If you don't want to use any other ingredients, you can just use the yolk of an egg. Beat an egg yolk, making sure the white isn't in there, then apply to your face. After 20 minutes, rinse with cool water.

Sour cream can make a great mask for dry skin. Apply sour cream to your face and let sit for about 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.

TIPS

With any of these masks, you should test them before applying the mixtures to your face. Put a little bit behind your ear to see if your skin has a reaction to any of the ingredients. If not, then go ahead and apply the mask.

Also, remember to only use the mask 1-2 times per week at the most. Over using the masks can harm your skin, rather than help it.

If you are having problems with acne, you can also try some of the over-the-counter acne medication, like Clean and Clear, Noxzema or even Proactiv.

Any of these masks can be used on other parts of the body, such as your back or chest. I've found that some of the masks for oily skin help get rid of chest acne too.

There are so many mask recipes out there, these are just a few that I've tried and liked. Good luck!
